Dr. Jason Briner is a glacial geologist (a scientist who studies glaciers). His lab is at the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York and he has done field work in Alaska, Norway, and Greenland. He says about his research, "I want to know how fast sea level is going to rise. To answer this, I study melting glaciers and ice sheets, particularly in the Arctic. As a geologist, I play the role of Sherlock Holmes: how did glaciers respond to past climate change?"
A scientist's job is to ask questions that we don't know the answers to and then work to find the answers through observation, experiments, and careful thinking. A scientific question that Jason would like to answer is "As our climate continues to change, how quickly are glaciers going to melt?"
